Applications open in the fall each year and close before winter holiday breaks.  Any Learning Forward Texas member in good standing may apply for open positions on the Board of Directors.

Application for new BOD member(s): 

  

To qualify as a candidate, an individual must:  

• Be a current member of both organizations: Learning Forward (the national organization) and Learning Forward Texas (the state affiliate.)

• Submit an acceptance form to the Texas nominating committee. 

• Agree to serve a minimum term of (3) consecutive years.  

• Not have served on the Learning Forward Texas board during the past (2) consecutive years.

 

Additional qualifications are established by the Board of Directors to guide the nominations committee in its search for qualified candidates. See the acceptance form for full disclosure of commitments and qualifications. 

 

Potential candidates should carefully review board members’ responsibilities and duties that include, but are not limited to:

 

General Qualifications:

• Current member in good standing of Learning Forward prior to submitting an application

• Current member in good standing of Learning Forward Texas prior to submitting an application,

• Willingness to promote Learning Forward Texas as an affiliate of Learning Forward,

• Knowledgeable of the Standards for Professional Learning,

• Commit to Learning Forward Texas’s Strategic Plan and Priorities.

• Participate as a member of a Board of Directors focusing on strategic priorities and actions related to Learning Forward Texas's vision and mission,

• Commit to the advocacy of Learning Forward Texas in your local workplace, state, and national level,

• Ability and willingness to work with others in both large and small groups,

• Capacity and the financial support to attend three (3) Learning Forward Texas Board meetings a year plus one other learning event

• Attend 3 virtual BOD meetings,

• Support from supervisor/organization.

Annual Conferences 

• Attend Learning Forward Texas Annual Conference, assisting the host committee throughout the conference as needed, 

• Co-chair Annual Conference on a rotating, as-needed basis, 

• Network with other Learning Forward Texas members at the annual conference. 

 

Regional Affiliates 

• Support, promote, and help increase membership of regional affiliates. 

 

Other Learning Events 

• Market Learning Forward Texas (organization and events) to Texas educators, including social media

• Participate in other learning events as approved and/or requested by the Board

 

Membership 

• Recruit new members (membership is free)

Items to be submitted--

1. The applicant's signed acceptance form.

2. A cover letter that includes: 

   • ​Reason for applying to the Learning Forward Texas Board, 

   • Strengths that you will bring to the Learning Forward Texas Board, 

   • Include any additional information that will help Board members when voting. 

3. An updated resume.

4. A reference letter from a current supervisor. Those self-employed should send a reference from a long-standing client or former supervisor. ​
