The King Center

Established to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, the King Center draws more than 650,000 visitors a year. The museum demonstrates Dr. King's influence on history through books, audio and video cassettes, film, television and more. Notable artifacts that are showcased at the Center include King's Bible and clerical robe, the key to his hotel room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis where he was assassinated, and several handwritten sermons. The museum's library comprises the largest collection of documentation of the civil rights movement in the world.

Not only does the museum tell the story of King's life, it is also the resting place of this great leader. Visitors to the King Center are given an opportunity to reflect as they stroll along the Freedom Walkway to the white-marble crypt, reflecting pool and eternal flame that designate King's tomb. A Chapel of all faiths is also part of the site, representing Dr. King's ecumenical work.

The King Center is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is free. For more information: 404-526-8923
