Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
A provocative, landmark shape on the city skyline, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is one of Cleveland's most visited attractions. Located on Lake Erie's beautiful North Coast Harbor, this musical mecca features a stunning pyramid and tower designed by renowned architect, I.M. Pei. After a long battle between Cleveland and Memphis for building rights, Cleveland became the victor. After all, it was Cleveland's disc jockey, Alan Freed, who is credited with first promoting the new genre called "rock and roll," and it is Cleveland that was the location of the first rock and roll concert. In 1995, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony including notables such as Yoko Ono and Little Richard.

The museum's seven floors are interspersed with the histories of the Hall of Fame's ninety-seven inductees, as well as the stories of the artists, producers and early influencers of rock and roll. The permanent collection includes memorabilia such as posters, costumes, guitars and other musical instruments. It also includes an exhibit entitled "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll" which showcases the most influential tunes in rock and roll history. The museum's visiting exhibits have showcased superstars such as Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, U2 and the Supremes.

Playhouse Square Theater District
Cleveland's acclaimed theater district is home to Shakespeare, dramas, modern dance, opera, comedy, ballet, symphony, the latest Broadway shows and more. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Playhouse Square is a remarkable triumph of historic preservation over the wrecking ball. Civic leaders have hailed "the saving of Playhouse Square" as the greatest success in Cleveland history.

The history of Playhouse Square began right after World War I when five spectacular theaters were built and opened in less than two years along one stretch of downtown's Euclid Avenue. Originally venues for legitimate theater, vaudeville and movies, the Allen, Ohio, State and Palace theaters closed in the 1960s, falling victim to the national decline of downtown areas due to the flight of city dwellers to the new suburbs. Twenty years later, the Hanna Theater closed. Of those original five theaters, four are now completely restored and the fifth, Hanna Theater, will re-open in the Fall of 2008.

The completed renovation of the Hanna Theater will be the finishing touch on Playhouse Square's astonishing reincarnation. After twenty-seven years and a cost of over $75 million, the landmark theater district will be the country's single largest theater restoration project. Playhouse Square now draws one million visitors and generates an estimated $46 million annually as a major force in the ongoing revitalization of downtown Cleveland. Providing an astonishing total of 10,000 seats, Playhouse Square is second in size only to
