Dallas Airport Information
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
The 18,076-acre Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport opened in 1974. It is the largest and busiest airport in the state of Texas. Centrally located about 30 minutes northwest of Dallas and 45 minutes northeast of Fort Worth, it serves more than 60 million passengers per year. DFW provides travelers with a unique benefit: every major city in the United States can be accessed from DFW within four hours.
There are five main terminals and more than 170 boarding gates at DFW. DFW has 3 control towers, more than any other airport in the world. DFW offers flights to 170 destinations on 15 domestic airlines and 7 international airlines. Approximately 50 non-stop international flights depart DFW everyday. It is American Airlines' largest hub in the United States with over 800 daily departures.
Several improvements have been made at DFW to enhance the traveler experience. A new international terminal including ticketing counters, a full-service Grand Hyatt hotel and its own parking deck has been completed. The Skylink, a new inner airport transportation system opened in 2005. Skylink is the largest high-speed airport train system in the world with inter-terminal trains that run approximately every two minutes and travel up to 35 mph. Additional amenities include over 40,000 parking spaces and a wide range of dining options including restaurants like Au Bon Pain, T.G.I. Friday's, Fuddruckers Hamburgers and Tigin Irish Pub & Restaurant.
Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL)
Dallas Love Field Airport served as the primary airport in Dallas until 1974. Love Field Airport is located near the heart of Dallas within minutes of the Dallas Convention Center and Dallas Market Center. It is known for its convenience, affordability and efficiency for the corporate traveler.
Love Field's size also makes it an attractive option for individuals seeking a less crowded and stressful travel experience. All three concourses are located within one main terminal. Five conference rooms and numerous business amenities can be found throughout the airport. In addition to extensive handicapped facilities, various restaurants and stores are provided.
Love Field offers more than 100 daily flights that serve 17 domestic destinations. The total number of flights and airlines serving Love Field has been limited by the Wright and Shelby amendments that were passed to protect the amount of air traffic surrounding DFW. However, American Airlines, Continental and Southwest Airlines all serve Love Field. More than 120 direct flights to various locations throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma are available through Southwest Airlines.
