Denver Airport Information

Denver International Airport

Denver International Airport (DEN)
Visitors flying into Denver are treated to one of the country's largest and most well-laid out airports. Opening in 1995, Denver International Airport covers an impressive 53 square miles. Its six runways can quickly be expanded into 11 to provide transportation for over 110 million passengers each year. In 2008, Denver International was ranked as the 9th busiest airport in the world with over 1,500 flights passing through daily. The airport services 23 airlines that fly guests to over 140 cities across the globe. Three of its airlines, Frontier, Southwest and TED, appeal to passengers flying on a tight budget.

Considering the large number of passengers that visit Denver International Airport every year, traffic inside and outside the building is low and amenities abound. Parking at the airport is a breeze with over 40,000 public parking spaces. The ticket counter is over a quarter of a mile long, which helps to keep passengers moving quickly. Each terminal is lined with restaurants, bars, grills and snack shops to allow travelers to relax in between flights. The airport is also lucky to have the America's largest public art program, which features artwork on Western life, travel, light and space.

In some ways, the airport itself is a piece of artwork. The main terminal is a large, impressive and easily recognizable space that covers over 1.4 million square feet. Frequently appearing on Denver postcards, the main terminal building's roof was molded into 34 separate peaks which mimic the majestic Rocky Mountains. The actual Rocky Mountains can be easily viewed through the terminal's enormous glass windows. Another impressive feature inside the Great Hall is the atrium, an area bigger than four football fields whose lofty ceiling is more than 10 stories tall.
