Punta Cana Beach
Heralded as home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches, the Dominican Republic features more than 1,500 kilometers of sandy beaches. The Dominican Republic's most popular beaches, including the resort areas of Playa Bávaro and Punta Cana, lie along the east coast. Punta Cana, commonly called the "coconut coast," is a nearly 50-kilometer-long, palm tree-lined beach known for its various water sports.
Adventure seekers often travel to the northern beach of Cabarete, which is ranked among the top 5 kite boarding and windsurfing beaches in the world. Also along the north coast, Playa Sosua is one of the most popular locales, while the tranquil and remote Playa Rincon, located on the island's northeast coast, encompasses almost five kilometers of surf surrounded by coconut and almond trees.
The Dominican Republic's south central beaches are local favorites. The bustling Boca Chica beach, frequented by many Santo Domingo residents, is known for its many food stands and shallow, kid-friendly waters. Beaches along the country's southwest coast, including Playa Pedernales and San Rafael, feature gray sand dunes, natural waterfalls and strong surf. San Rafael also boasts gentle waters in its natural swimming pool, formed by a nearby waterfall and separated from the ocean surf by a manmade barrier.
