Right on the central highway of Santo Domingo, the stunning National Theater is the centerpiece of the Plaza de la Cultura. Built in 1973, the theater has four levels, one main hall, and two auxiliary halls. Named for famous Dominican opera singer Eduardo Brito, the main hall is well-equipped for both operas and other musical performances. Its 24-meter-by-25-meter stage can fit 250 people, while its orchestra has room for 120 musicians. In addition to its performance halls, the theater's Sala de la Cultura was built for smaller-scale cultural events such as piano recitals, seminars and chamber concerts.
The theater's two small rooms can accommodate 175 people and 200 people, while its larger theater boasts 1,800 seats. Performances schedules and ticket prices vary. For more information: 809-687-3191
