Located in Puerto Plata on the north shore of the Dominican Republic, the US$100 million Ocean World complex is home to an expansive marina, four-story casino and ever-popular Ocean World Adventure Park. The Adventure Park, which opened in March 2004, features interactive animal exhibits and activities with resident dolphins, sea lions, sharks, stingrays, tigers and exotic tropical birds. The most popular park attraction is the over 45-million-liter dolphin pool - the largest of its kind in the world - which features daily dolphin encounters and swims.
Guests can also swim with sea lions, snorkel among thousands of tropical fish in the enclosed tropical reef, or feed and touch colorful tropical birds in the Free Flight Aviary. At the Tropical Rainforest, guests can swim under the waterfalls of a beach grotto, separated from the park's tiger habitat by only a glass wall. As part of the shark encounters experience, brave visitors can stand in the park's shark pool as the resident carnivores swim below.
Adventure Park features 52 scheduled shows and encounters daily. General admission, which includes access to the Ocean World grounds, is US$55 for adults and US$40 for children ages 12 and under. Encounters range from US$70 to US$195 per person. Many Puerto Plata hotels offer direct bus transportation to the Ocean World complex. Ocean World also offers group encounters and activities.
