Parque Zoológico Nacional

Santo Domingo's Parque Zoológico Nacional is one of the largest and best-tended zoos in Latin America. Opened in 1975, the zoo is home to a wide variety of both endemic and international species, including such favorites as rock-climbing iguanas, white rhinoceros, American crocodiles and the Dominican Republic rodents known as hutias. The lush 320-acre zoo grounds also contain an expansive aviary and serpentarium. Zoo guests can either explore the hilly grounds by foot or climb aboard the zoo train for a guided tour.

The Parque Zoológico Nacional is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Admission is RD$30 for children ages 12 and under and RD$50 for adults. Pony and llama rides cost an additional RD$20 each. For more information: 809-541-5652
