Located a short drive from London in St. Thomas, the Elgin County Railway Museum explores the power and history behind the locomotive and how it changed life across the country. Known as the Railway Capital of Canada, St. Thomas has seen a total of 26 railways pass through since 1856. Guests to the museum can climb aboard a wooden caboose built in 1891, learn what it felt like to stoke the fire of a powerful steam engine, or simply explore the numerous train cars from railways including New York Central, London & Port Stanley and Canadian National.
Group tours of the museum are available, and luncheons for up to 100 guests can be held on museum grounds. Elgin County Railway Museum is open daily, May to September, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission is C$4. Admission for children ages 12 and under is free. For more information: 519-637-6284
