California Science Center
Located in Exposition Park, the California Science Center invites guests to lean about human inventions, life processes and more through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities. Guests can experience an earthquake and learn to prepare for a real one at the Structures Exhibit or experience the ultraviolet vision of a bee at the Control Center Exhibit. The Humans in Space Exhibit features highlights such as the Apollo-Soyuz Command module, Gemini 11 capsule, Mercury-Redstone 2 capsule and space suit worn by Thomas Mattingly on the Apollo 16 mission.
Guests will soon have even more to look forward to at the science center. An expansion project is underway to complete a World of Ecology complex, which will add 170,000 square feet of space to the center. Here, guests can explore themes such as how animals and plants adapt to their environments and how resources are moved from place to place. The World of Ecology is expected to open in 2010.
This one-of-a-kind venue is a great place for hosting events during the day or night. From the 7,573-square-foot Donald P. Loker Conference Center to the 3,796-square-foot Rose Garden Gallery, the center can meet the needs of any size event. Special event services include in-house audio-visual equipment and staffing, in-house furniture, and parking and valet services.
The California Science Center is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission to permanent exhibition galleries is free. Other attractions and exhibits may require additional fees. Groups of 15 or more people are encouraged to make reservations in advance. Parking is $8 per car and $10 per bus. For more information: 323-724-3623
