Maui experiences a year-round mild tropical climate with two distinct seasons. Summer lasts from May to October, while winter – Maui's rainy season – lasts November to April. Maui's annual rainfall varies by location; due to prevailing trade winds, most rain falls in the north, leaving the south relatively dry. Haleakala receives an average of 44 inches of rain per year; Hana, an average of 69 inches; and Lahaina, Kihei and Wailea, an average of 15 inches. Most rainfall is brief and followed by spectacular rainbows.
Maui's average daytime temperature is 75°F all year. August and September are Maui's hottest months with average temperatures in the low 90s, while average temperatures during the coldest months of December and January hover in the low 70s. With such a pleasant climate, any month is a great one to visit this tropical paradise.
