South Beach
The 23 southern-most blocks of Miami Beach comprise what is arguably the most widely recognizable area in Miami: South Beach. Once farm land, South Beach began development in 1910 and has undergone numerous man-made and natural transformations over the years that led it to become the glittering oceanside retreat that it is today. The neon lights and pastel-colored architecture of the jazzy Art Deco District provide the perfect backdrop for the unprecedented blend of people from all over the world who converge on South Beach each year.
The many outdoor cafes along Ocean Drive provide an excellent opportunity for people watching and celebrity sightings. Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue supply an open-air shopping district complete with trendy independent boutiques and high-end designer stores.
