Mader's Restaurant
No trip to the city would be complete without a taste of Old Milwaukee from the award-winning Mader's Restaurant. A Milwaukee institution since 1902, Mader's Restaurant serves up home-cooked traditional German fare in a welcoming Old World atmosphere adorned with suits of medieval armor, antiques dating back to the 14th century and an impressive $3 million collection of artwork. In addition to the time-honored décor, guests will no doubt take notice of the photos of the many famous individuals that have dined at Mader's over the years including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra.
Menu favorites include traditional staples such as wiener schnitzel, bratwurst and knackwurst in sauerkraut. An extensive wine list as well as more than 200 types of beer complement selections. Guests should try out the popular Franzenkaner Weiss wheat beer or the Spaten Optimator dark, double bach served in a one- or two-liter glass boot. After dinner, visitors can climb the stairs to Mader's Tower Gallery's collection of hundreds of beer steins and M. I. Hummel figurines for sale.
