Yankee Stadium, popularly known as "The House That Ruth Built," is the home of the biggest franchise in baseball. Located in the Bronx and built in 1923, it is one of major league baseball's oldest ballparks and has seen its occupants, the New York Yankees, win more championships than any other major league team. The stadium was also home to many baseball firsts, such as the first electronic scoreboard and the first "warning track," a dirt section right before the outfield wall that alerts fielders to a potential collision.
The current 57,000-seat stadium will be torn down to create a public park while a new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium nears completion in an adjacent lot. The new facility opens its doors in 2009 with a capacity of 52,325 people and over a million square feet of retail space and 60 luxury boxes.
The New York Yankees' season runs February to September. Stadium ticket windows are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM during the season. Tickets start at $14 on game days for bleacher seating. Group rates and special amenities are available. For more information: 718-293-4300
