Fewer than two hours away from major meeting destinations Los Angeles and San Diego, Orange County has some tough competition when it comes to conventions and events. But with world-famous attractions, the largest convention center on the West Coast, spectacular weather, and an unparalleled reputation as a family-friendly locale, Orange County not only keeps up with its neighbors, it shines.

Arriving in Orange County is affordable and easy, as it is served by four major airports. John Wayne Airport, the gateway to the county, offers non-stop service to over 15 domestic locations, while travel hub Los Angeles International Airport is just a 40-minute drive away. Anaheim Convention Center

One stop sure to be on any planner's list is the newly-renovated, 1,100-acre Anaheim Resort District. Here, the Anaheim Convention Center offers world-class meeting spaces within a 1.6-million-square-foot facility. Marked by its wave-shaped wall of glass that spans the entire length of the building, the convention center has 815,000 square feet of exhibit space and 130,000 square feet of meeting space. A full suite of amenities, including full in-house catering and wall-to-wall wireless capabilities, along with an earth-friendly operations plan, make the Anaheim Convention Center the jewel in Orange County's – and the West Coast's – meetings crown.

For smaller functions and events, Orange County boasts a wide variety of museums, gardens and historical sites for group use. Travel back to where it all started at the Mission San Juan CapistranoMission San Juan Capistrano

Anaheim GardenWalk

The Downtown Disney District was just one element of Anaheim's multi-million dollar renovation in 2001, a project that overhauled the city's resort areas, convention center, hotel room inventory and more. Since then the city has not slowed down. In 2007, Anaheim Center Walk's Anaheim Marriott unveiled its massive Platinum Ballroom and renovated guest rooms, while 2008 saw the completion of a multi-million dollar renovation of the Center Walk's Hilton Anaheim. Also opened in 2008, the Anaheim GardenWalk features 400,000 square feet of restaurants, retailers and hotels.

Improvements continue to be made in both Anaheim and in Orange County as a whole. Disney's California Adventure Park will experience a $1 billion redevelopment through 2012, and the OC Fair & Event Center is in the midst of a $25 million facility improvement project. Several hotels are also on the horizon. Pacific City, a new development in Huntington Beach, will be the home of the county's first W hotel.

Demonstrated by its wealth of fantastic meeting spaces, Orange County can certainly get down to business. An entrepreneurial powerhouse, the county's businesses are pioneering the surfing, sportswear, biomedical, aeronautical, coffee and theme park industries. Businesses such as Quiksilver, Pacific Life, Gateway, Inc., Linksys, Oakley, Inc., and Hurley, Inc., are based in Orange County. It is also home to several universities and colleges, including Anaheim University, California State University-Fullerton, University of California at Irvine and Trinity Law School.
