Musée d'Orsay

Musée d'Orsay
Musée d'Orsay

Set within the soaring dimensions of the former Gare d'Orsay railway station – initially built for the 1900 World's Fair – the Musée d'Orsay houses one of the world's finest collections of late 19th and early 20th century art. Documenting the initial revelatory moments of impressionism and, later, of cubism, Art Nouveau pointillism and beyond, the museum's vast collection represents important works by Manet, Monet, Degas, Picasso, Cézanne and Gauguin. Among these works are Luncheon on the Grass by Manet, Rouen Cathedral by Monet, Bal au Moulin de la Galette by Renoir, and The Artist's Mother by James Whistler.

The Musée d'Orsay offers three reception rooms and one auditorium for private events. The most impressive of its venues is the former ballroom and restaurant of the Orsay train station hotel. Private viewings of the museum's collections can also be arranged.

The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through Sunday from 9:30 AM to 6 PM; evening hours are extended Thursday to 9:45 PM. The museum is closed Monday. General admission is €8; admission for guests ages 18-30 is €5.50. For more information: +33 14 049 4814
