San Antonio Airport Information

San Antonio International Airport (SAT)
A mere 15 minutes from downtown, the San Antonio International Airport is comprised of two terminals that encompass 2,600 acres. More than 8 million passengers pass through one of its 24 jet-bridge gates and three ground-loading gates each year.

San Antonio International was founded in 1941 by the city, but served the government as an Army Air Forces training base when it opened in 1942 due to wartime needs. After the war, the airport was once again available for public use. Now, the airport is home to 21 carriers providing non-stop service to 43 different markets. About 260 daily domestic and international departures and arrivals take place at San Antonio International each year.

With a multi-million dollar expansion project in the works, the airport’s growth will not end any time in the future. In December 2007, the airport opened a new five-story parking garage that provides 2,800 spaces to travelers, making the airport capable of accommodating 6,000 cars in one of its daily, hourly and economy parking lots. Additionally, the expansion plans include the addition of new terminals and gates, eventually increasing the total number of gates to 35.
