Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf
Fisherman's Wharf

Regarded as San Francisco's most popular destination, Fisherman's Wharf is known for its delicious seafood, breathtaking views of the bay and unique shopping outlets. The district was once home to a fleet of more than 400 working boats, bringing in fresh seafood daily. Today, a few vintage fishing boats and modern diesel boats still operate in the area, which can be seen arriving every morning at Fish Alley with crack-of-dawn seafood deliveries.

Walking through the streets at Fisherman's Wharf, guests are met by entertaining street performers and the aroma of fresh seafood vendors serving up the trademark Dungeness crab and sourdough bread bowls. The area's Hyde Street Pier is home to the world's largest collection of historic ships by tonnage, where visitors can board several National Landmark vessels, such as the 1890 ferryboat Eureka. Fisherman's Wharf is also the departure point for many cruise tours and home to many San Francisco attractions, including the Aquarium of the Bay and a wax museum.

Also of note at the wharf is Pier 39. Here, guests can ride the San Francisco Carousel, the only carousel in the United States painted with scenes of its resident city, or watch the hundreds of basking sea lions that gather along the docks.

Carousel rides at Pier 39 are $3 per person. Visitors can access the area along the Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde cable car lines. For more information: 415-674-7503
