The Royal Ontario Museum first opened to the public in 1912 and is the largest museum in Canada, with more than six million objects. Dazzling approximately one million visitors every year, it is Canada's leading museum and a Toronto must see. The World Culture Exhibits delve deeply into the rich heritage of countries spanning the globe such as China, Korea, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, while the Natural History Exhibits allow guests to step into the exotic terrain of animal species from past to present with enlightening displays such as the Gallery of Birds, the Bat Cave, Gallery of Reptiles and the recently revitalized James and Louise Temerty Galleries of the Age of Dinosaurs.
The Royal Ontario Museum is currently in the midst of a multi-year expansion endeavor dubbed "Renaissance ROM." The focal point of this C$270 million expansion is the stunning Michael Lee-Chin Crystal galleries created by celebrated architect Daniel Libeskind. The design, which oozes Libeskind's famed ultramodern style, is now part of the main entrance to the museum. Libeskind's architectural prowess will astound visitors upon their arrival with a spectacular display of intersecting crystal prisms.
The Royal Ontario Museum is open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM, Friday from 10 AM to 9:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. Admission is C$14 for children ages 5-14, C$20 for adults and C$17 for seniors and students with identification. For more information: 416-586-8000
