1789 Restaurant
Located in a Federal period house, this Georgetown restaurant takes its name from a significant time in local history, reflecting a year when the U.S. Constitution was adopted, when Mayor Robert Peter incorporated the village of Georgetown, and when Archbishop John Caroll purchased the restaurant's original site. After various upgrades and renovations, the restaurant has not lost its stately elegance and distinguished features such as working fireplaces and American antiques. Guests dine in one of six unique seating areas, including the Manassas Room, walled in siding from a 19th century Maryland barn, and the Wickets Room, an oak paneled area on the mezzanine level adorned with a three-tiered chandelier. Menus change daily, but signature favorites include Nantucket Bay scallops with wild mushrooms, leeks and beets, and roasted cod with chorizo, kale, fingerling potatoes and cilantro. An extensive selection of wines is available by the glass or by the half bottle.
1789 Restaurant offers two rooms for group accommodations: the Middleburg Room, which features a view of Prospect Street, seats up to 56 people; and the Garden Room, entered into through French doors and adorned with sheer curtains and floral prints, seats up to 18 people. The entire restaurant is available for up to 200 guests.
