The Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens are the only grounds in the National Park Service to cultivate water-loving plants. Across 12 acres on the east bank of the Anacostia River, guests can explore over 45 ponds that serve as home to a variety of water lilies, lotuses and other tropical plants. Together with the surrounding 70 acres of tidal marsh, the gardens are ideal for a day of hiking, biking, canoeing and bird watching. Various species of heron, duck, hawk, warbler and sparrow, among many others, are known to inhabit the park throughout the year.
The aquatic gardens are open daily from 7 AM to 4 PM. They are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. Admission is free.For more information: 202-426-6905
