Union Station
From its white granite walls and 70 pounds of 22-karat gold leaf adoring the 96-foot-high barrel-vaulted ceiling, the Beaux Arts-style Union Station hearkens back to a time when train travel was the glamorous form of transportation that ferried presidents, foreign dignitaries and more across the distances. Today, Union Station has come a long way since the 19th century, but still retains much of its former glory after a three-year, $160 million renovation. In addition to serving as the Amtrak hub for the city, the station is a shopping and dining hotspot. Guests can browse stores such as Ann Taylor, Jos. A. Bank and Nine West, or grab a meal at a variety of eateries, from fast food to casual cafes to upscale restaurants. Visitors can even catch the latest flick at the station's nine-screen Phoenix Theatres complex.
Several venues in Union Station are available for private events, such as the 500-seat Columbus Club and numerous restaurants and cafes. Union Station store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM and Sunday from noon to 6 PM.For more information: 202-289-1908
