U.S. National Arboretum

The 446-acre U.S. National Arboretum is a true outdoor escape in northwest Washington. Roughly 600,000 people annually travel the 9.5 miles winding through the grounds, covered in azaleas, boxwoods, daffodils, daylilies, maples, peonies and more. Visitors can wander the rustic trails at the Azalea Collection, even walking up to Mount Hamilton, one of the highest points in the city, or explore the 13 acres of the Asian collection, where something is always in bloom. The National Bonsai and Penjing Museum houses one of the most extensive collections of such trees in North America, spread across three pavilions. Other notable highlights include the Friendship Garden, Dogwood Collections, Fern Valley and Holly and Magnolia Collections.

The arboretum offers several spaces, both indoor and outdoor, for private events, from the 50-seat National Bonsai & Penjing Museum Chinese Pavilion to the 600-seat Arboretum Meadow. The National Arboretum is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. It is closed Christmas. Admission is free. For more information: 202-245-2726
