The Exchange District
The Exchange District is considered by many to contain the most extensive collection of turn-of-the-century architecture on the continent. The 150 buildings in the distinguished 20-block neighborhood display a range of architectural styles that helped earn the city the label "Chicago of the North."
Once occupied by some 20 banks, buildings for grain and wholesale trade, and warehouses, the Exchange District now houses restaurants, art galleries and antique shops. Theaters, pubs, jazz bars and cabarets also keep the area alive at night. Regular concerts and festivals in the Old Market Square and Canwest Place keep the scene fresh.
The Exchange District offers walking tours of the neighborhood, including theme tours such as Green Buildings and Banker's Row. Tours, varying from 45 minutes to 90 minutes in length, run from June to September. Ticket prices vary based on tour type. For more information: 204-942-6716
