Venue Type: Hotels
The El Rancho Hotel was built by Joe Massaglia in 1937 for R.E. "Griff" Griffith. Originally, Griffith came to Gallup to direct a film. He later returned to build the El Rancho Hotel. From the 1930's to 1950's, the hotel became a temporary home for many Hollywood stars. It also became a stopping point for tourists driving on old Route 66. The hotel is now protected by the National Historic Preservation Society. This historic hotel is continually cared for by Mr. Ortega who has made it his personal hobby since its purchase. The hotel is located on the south side of Highway 66 off Interstate 40 at Exit 22, adjacent to a shopping area with a post office. The El Rancho is now owned and operated by Armand Ortega, a well-known and respected fourth generation Indian trader. With his knowledge of the Spanish/Indian ways, Armand Ortega has brought back the warmth, friendliness and impressive quality of the El Rancho Hotel. Decorated in the Spanish/Indian tradition and staffed with courteous employees to cater to your comfort, the setting is nothing less than impeccable. Stay with us in our relaxing atmosphere and sleep under the Stars.
