This course is designed for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who treat pediatric populations. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing the normal muscle control and coordination during the gait cycle, evaluating abnormal gait, and applying treatment techniques to gain a more energy efficient gait pattern. Lab work will emphasize problem solving and hands-on treatment of other participants. The instructor will also treat two-three children with cerebral palsy in demonstrations. Participants should wear shorts and T-shirts for labs.
The participant will be able to:
1) List the function of the trunk flexors and extensors, the hip flexors, extensors, abductors, adductors, rotators, the knee flexors and extensors, and the ankle flexors and extensors during gait in the:
