Functional potentials are realistic expectations of activities that a person with spinal cord injury should eventually be able to achieve with a particular level of injury. The purpose of setting functional physical therapy and occupations goals is to offer the greatest opportunity for the individual to achieve maximum independence. During this presentation we will review the ASIA classification system followed by a description of functional activities a person with spinal cord injury can expect to achieve following rehabilitation.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Participants will be able to describe motor and sensory levels of the ASIA classification system.
2. Participants will be able to discuss factors that affect functional potentials
3. Participants will be able to Identify functional potentials and expectations for each level of complete SCI
