11th Annual HIGHER Ground Women's Leadership Conference

About the Event

The Annual HIGHER Ground Women's Leadership Conference provides high-quality education and networking opportunities for women from across the Commonwealth. Each year, more than 300 women come together from across the state to share ideas, illuminate innovative leadership practices and explore factors that influence their effectiveness at work, at home, and in their communities. Our one day, multi-track format offers a self-directed facilitated learning environment with education sessions and interactive forums. Key features include: plenary sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and regional and national speakers highlighting timely issues of importance to women. Continuing Education Units (CEU) are available for full participation in this event.

This one day event celebrates who you are as a woman in all aspects of your life. The conference will provide you a tremendous opportunity to grow, develop, and learn with practical solutions for success at home and at work. Guided by The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute, with presentations from regionally and nationally known workshop leaders, participants will explore the latest and innovative practices in leadership excellence. Come spend a day with great leaders, find what motivates you, and build leadership skills that last!

About the Institute

Housed in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute was established in May 1999 by the Board of Visitors at Virginia Commonwealth University in honor of Grace E. Harris, Ph.D., upon her retirement from the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs. Harris has served the university for more than 40 years in the roles of faculty member, dean, vice provost, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and acting president, becoming the highest-ranking woman and highest-ranking African-American in VCU’s history. The Institute develops and implements programs based on principles of collaboration and partnership. Other unique features include its strong theoretical grounding in the concept of transformational leadership, its commitment to long-term relationships with clients and participants and its focus on leadership in academic and community settings. The Institute also conducts research and disseminates knowledge on the best practices in leadership.
