Join us for a half day tour on the Flathead National Forest organized by the Forest Service, partnering agencies, and businesses. The afternoon field tour will be a short bus ride along Flathead Lake to the Blacktail Mountain Road with a local representative providing a guided experience and answering questions. The tour will consist of five plus stops that highlight key initiatives led by the Forest Service and their partners and provide demonstrations of technology and equipment highlighted at the conference. Confirmed field tour stops include 1) the use of drones (UAVs) in low volume road and forest management, 2) slope stabilization projects on Blacktail Mountain road and the Unstable Slope Management Project App (USMP), 3) the use of cell phone app tools for low volume road assessments, 4) environmentally sensitive stream crossings, and 5) dust control treatments. (Tour buses will drop off at the Hilton Garden Inn and Red Lion.)
An offsite conference banquet will be held at the Diamond B Barns in Kalispell, approximately 10 miles from the Hilton Garden Inn. Transportation will be provided; buses will pick-up and drop off at both the Hilton Garden Inn and Red Lion. Attendee registration includes the Tuesday night event; guest tickets are available for $75.
All conference attendees are invited to submit one favorite low volume road photograph (scenic, good performer, bad performer, ridiculously bad performer, construction, washed away, landslide, etc.). All submissions will be displayed at the conference with the photographers name. The best photograph, as judged by the Conference Planning Committee, will be awarded a prize at the conference. Email one photograph at original resolution to David Jones (Conference Chair, djjones@ucdavis.edu) before August 30 for inclusion in the competition. Submissions after August 30 will be displayed, but not included the competition.
