Breakout Session 1 - Pending Coal Ash Regulations: Considerations for Closure and Remedial Options
Location: Hancock Room EPA has proposed rules to regulate disposal of coal ash generated by electric utilities and independent power producers. The proposal offers two possible options for the management of coal ash: regulation under subtitle C of RCRA as a special waste, or under subtitle D of RCRA as non-hazardous wastes. Under either option, some current management scenarios will not be acceptable. The presentation discusses considerations and options for closure and remediation of existing management units.
