Presentation of the Norman E. Borlaug Medallion
The Norman E. Borlaug Medallion was created by the World Food Prize Foundation to honor those organizations and Heads of State who would not ordinarily be eligible for the World Food Prize, but who have made an especially noteworthy contribution to increasing food in the world and ensuring adequate nutrition.

In the past it has only been presented to: The King of Thailand; The Sasakawa Family and Foundation of Japan; and H.E. Kofi Annan for his leadership of the United Nations. The Borlaug Medallion will be presented by the World Food Prize Foundation to APLU both to:
    1. commemorate the fact that Dr. Norman Borlaug, Father of the Green Revolution, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and founder of the World Food Prize, was a graduate of a land-grant university; and
    2. recognize the essential role that the land-grant institutions have played over the past 150 years in: fostering the most prolific agricultural production ever recorded in all human history; inspiring multiple generations in attaining the highest levels of scientific research; and providing a model for emulation around the world as we endeavor to fulfill Dr. Borlaug’s goal of eliminating the scourge of hunger from the face of the earth.
