2012 Council on Academic Affairs (CAA) Summer Meeting

Summary

The Council on Academic Affairs (CAA) Summer meeting brings together A۰P۰L۰U chief academic officers from across the nation to discuss topics in an informal atmosphere permitting depth of thought and lively exchange. This year’s CAA Summer Meeting will also help mark the sesquicentennial anniversary of the Morrill Act—setting the stage for federal support for public research universities. Our meeting continues the celebration and assessment that will begin the day before at the APLU Convocation: 150 Years of the Morrill Act: Advancing the Legacy preceding day (you must register separately for that event).

Session topics are anticipated to include interdisciplinary scholarship; outreach and engagement in the 21st century university; the student of the 21st century public university; diversifying our revenue streams; disruptors and change in higher education; joint session with the Council on Research Policy and Graduate Education (bioenergy, unique capabilities); and courseware and adaptive learning systems.

The summer meeting is a unique opportunity to learn more about national trends and to share insights and strategies in a collegial setting.

While the APLU Annual Meeting held in the fall is open to all, the CAA Executive Committee limits participation in the Summer Meeting to both acting and permanent chief academic affairs officers from APLU institutions.

A key highlight of the meeting will be Thursday night, when CAA and CRPGE will be hosted by the French Embassy for a joint reception and dinner. This will be a chance to spend time with your colleagues, guests and to meet top French Diplomats and Science Diplomats from around the world.
Please note:  There are a limited number of seats for this reception/dinner event; participation will be based on a first come, first served basis (FCFS).  At this time, you are allowed to invite ONE guest only.  We will notify you at a later date if there are slots available for you to invite more than one guest.  If you are interested in participating in this event and signing up your guest or spouse, please do so as soon as possible. Cost per person is $75.00 (this is not included in either the CRPGE or CAA registration fee). This is a separate registration fee for all who want to participate.
