The 2012 TRB Planning Committee Summer Meeting will include a smaller number of committees, harkening back to the summer meetings origins! However, the meeting will be full of exciting sessions, meetings, and events. The small number of committees, coupled with the excellent communication capability at the Beckman Center will allow us to provide time and connectivity for the meetings and sessions that have not been possible in recent years.
The program will be an exciting different aspect of this year’s Summer Meeting. Working with a long list of government and non-government agencies, we have developed a program focused on scenario planning. The program content will be similar to a typical peer exchange – just a really large one! We will begin with a survey of scenario planning efforts and the current thinking on scenario planning best practices. We will then explore the various aspects of scenario planning. The sessions will be very interactive with lots of time to share experiences and learn from your peers. With federal funding representatives from transit, MPO, State DOT, and local community planning agencies will be invited to the summer meeting. The broader cross section of attendees will provide a unique opportunity to expand our definition of peers and to increase the number and types of experiences that can be shared.

Early in the meeting the ceremony for the 2012 Transportation Planning Excellence Awards will be held. This very prestigious award will go to 10 organizations from across the country – they are being recognized for outstanding initiatives to develop, plan and implement innovative transportation planning practice in their communities. The award recipients will be available to discuss their projects at a reception following the ceremony.
At that same reception, we will be joined by members of the newly formed Los Angeles chapter of the Young Professionals in Transportation. This will be a great opportunity for TRB volunteers and the young professionals to meet and share experiences.

Registration fees include all sessions, committee meetings, coffee breaks, Sunday reception, Monday and Tuesday lunch.
Spouses and guests are welcome to attend the Sunday reception (note the fee below for additional tickets).
