As a member of the Dignity Act’s Task Force and Professional Development committee, ADL New York is looking to recognize 100 schools throughout New York State for the 2013-2014 school year through our FREE No Place For Hate® initiative.
No Place For Hate is designed to enhance a culture of respect and to create a safe, bully-free learning environment for students at all grade levels. In compliance with the Dignity Act, No Place For Hate offers schools the opportunity to be recognized for their staff development and student training related to bullying, harassment and discrimination.
Requirements to become No Place For Hate:
Complete the online registration by October 15, 2013.
Create a No Place For Hate committee by November 13, 2013 to plan, coordinate and oversee the school’s anti-bias/anti-bullying projects. (Committee should be made up of students, faculty, and family members)
Sign the Resolution of Respect by November 13, 2013.
Complete three or more anti-bias/anti-bullying education activities by April 2, 2014.
No Place for Hate is successful at every grade level, from pre-K through Grade 12, and is embraced by public, private and parochial schools across the country. As one principal stated in a newsletter to family members, “(As a result of participating in No Place For Hate), our discipline referral rate cut in half when compared to the previous year. In addition, our Out-of-School Suspension rate dropped by 58% and our In-School Suspension rate decreased by 26%.”
Schools that fulfill all requirements will receive a personalized No Place For Hate banner in a recognition ceremony at the end of the school year.
