Tax agencies remain under constant pressure to become more efficient in processing tax data -- and tax preparers and software developers are under their own pressures to deliver better and cheaper service and products.
The Federation of Tax Administrators Electronic Filing Symposium provides a forum for states and industry to share their best practices and the latest standards in electronic filing. The Symposium also is the once-a-year opportunity for tax agencies, the IRS and software developers to coordinate the three essential pieces of this special cooperative program.
All individuals interested in electronic filing and today's environment of return processing are encouraged to attend. Relatively new employees as well as mid- and senior-level personnel with considerable experience, plus those concerned with electronic filing of business taxes, should benefit from the Symposium.

The 2013 FTA E-File Symposium will begin in the late afternoon on Monday, May 13, 2013 through noon on Thursday, May 16, 2013, in New Orleans. The State Efile Coordinators will meet on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Free File Working Group and a State Internet Filing meeting will be offered after the session on Wednesday.
All attendees are offered an early registration discount, and there is a volume discount fee for government attendees ($25 off if you register by April 30.) Register four persons from the same firm or agency at the same time and the fourth person's fee will be waived. The spring committee meetings for the National Association of Computerized Tax Processors (NACTP) will also be at the Monteleone the week of May 13. The Government Liaison, e-File, Payroll and Information Reporting, and Sales and Use Tax committees will evaluate the past filing season and strategize on how to better partner with the various taxing agencies. IRS and state representatives are encouraged to assist in the evaluation and strategic planning process. The committees will meet on the following days: 1. e-File Committee – Thurs/Fri; 2. Government Liaison Committee – Wed/Thurs; 3. Sales and Use Tax Committee – Tues/Wed; 4. Payroll and Information Reporting Committee - Wed/Thurs.
