High Definition and OLED - The Future for Advanced Displays
We enter 2013 with increasing worries about the traditional display industry. Chinese panel manufacturers have reached full production, bringing uncertainty to supply and demand. Activity has slowed in North America, China and Europe. At the same time, the smart devices industry is booming. The result is decreasing demand for traditional displays, and smart devices are now leading the trend toward larger and more luxurious displays. For smartphones, a market for so-called “phablets” (phone + tablet) is developing. In 2013, demand will increase for FHDs (1920 × 1080) and larger panels from 5” to 7”. For TVs, the display technology is rapidly moving to UHD (4K×2K), creating a 60”+ market, much like what we saw when the 29” CRT TV market evolved into the 40” FPD TV market.
As for display technologies, AMOLED is once again attracting attention after a year of delays. Investment in this industry is on the rise. Korean, Taiwan, Japanese companies are entering the AMOLED TV market, and flexible AMOLED is expected in late 2013. Advanced technologies will be necessary for AMOLED to spread to larger and higher definition displays. The technological strategies and choices companies make this year will transform the display industry. At the 15th NPD DisplaySearch Korea FPD Conference, NPD DisplaySearch analysts will present their analysis and forecasts for the display industry and market. They will discuss the strategic direction of the major players and key topics, including high definition (4K×2K) and AMOLED. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable insight into the present and future display industry.
