This conference is designed to provide participants with the latest updates in selected topics of interest in urgent and emergency care. Through a combination of didactic lectures, interactive discussions, and workshop sessions, participants will learn the evidence and science of caring for acutely ill children. Upon completion of the program, participants will: • Acquire the necessary skill and knowledge base for performing emergency procedures (based on the American Heart Association 2010 revised protocols of the Advanced Pediatric Life Support and simulated codes) in an interactive workshop setting• Understand the basics of proper isolation precautions and safety practices based on history, physical exam, and risk assessment through case-based presentation• Understand the strategies to adequately anticipate and treat pain in the ED• Learn the management of common male genitourinary (GU) emergencies• Become familiar with the latest literature on selected hot topics and current trends in pediatric emergency care• Be able to describe and discuss specific rashes, radiographic findings, and other diagnostic dilemmas• Understand the fundamentals and basics of ultrasound use in the ED• Learn novel uses of rapid MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans to diagnose pathology while reducing excessive exposure to radiation• Discuss the common causes of chest pain in children• Become familiar with management.Refunds, minus an administrative fee of $35, will be granted only if written notice is received by Friday, October 31, 2014.
