What is the 2016 EFA Conference? Whether you are a writer, editor, proofreader, translator, indexer, graphic designer—you name it—the 2016 EFA Conference will help you jump-start your freelance career or bring it to the next level. Expect insightful panels, hands-on workshops, and nationally renowned speakers tackling a range of concerns for publishing industry freelancers. Learn how to:

  • set up and manage your business
  • find new clients
  • organize and improve your finances
  • take your career in new directions
  • network effectively
  • improve your skill set

Where will the conference be held? In New York City, at the CUNY Graduate Center. It's a great Midtown Manhattan location, a mere two blocks from the Empire State Building and within walking distance of Macy's flagship store, Times Square, and the Theater District.

Where will attendees stay? We have arranged discounts at several hotels just a few blocks from the conference site. In addition, there are several chain hotels within two blocks of the Graduate Center, so you can choose one of these if you prefer a particular chain. The conference is convenient to public transportation, including multiple subway lines and trains and buses from New Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut, and along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. This translates into a quick ride for anyone seeking accommodations outside Manhattan. Click on the Hotels Nearby tab for more information.

What does the conference offer? We have worked hard to design a conference that you will want to attend.  Many of our decisions, including the kinds of sessions, the topics, and the speakers, were based on an EFA member survey. The Presenters are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and expertise with new, mid-career, and veteran freelancers.

Who should attend? Anyone already working as a freelancer or interested in pursuing a freelance career. We’ll have sessions for new freelancers and for anyone, no matter how long in business, who wants to explore new niches. Experienced freelancers will learn ways to improve their business and take it to new heights. And the conference offers something not easily available in today’s wired world: a chance to meet other freelancers face-to-face and develop in-person connections.
