2016 GED/HSED & Adult Literacy Conference
"Achieving Credentials for Success"
If you work or volunteer in family literacy, ELL, ABE instruction, inmate education, or community-based organization or literacy programs, or if you are a GED/HSED examiner, administrator, educator, workforce partner or disability specialist – this exciting educational opportunity is for you!
To meet everyone’s diverse needs, this year we’ve reorganized the conference a little bit. On Tuesday, October 25th, an all-day pre-conference begins for WTCS staff working on developing Accelerated Learning instruction at their colleges.
On Wednesday, October 26th the two-day conference begins at 8:00 a.m. and will focus on curricular, educational, and administrative topics for administrators, examiners and teachers. We intend to have a full day of focused work on updating the WTCS ABE standards to align with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) as well as incorporating employability, digital literacy, and career-focused content into the ABE curriculum. There will be a strand of sessions focusing on the GED and on HSED programming, and sessions designed to meet the needs of community-based and volunteer literacy organizations.
Conference sectionals will continue on Thursday, October 27th and will include various instructional, student-related and programmatic topics in the areas of adult basic education, high school credential instruction (including multiple sessions on promising ABE to post-secondary transitional approaches), and a full array of sessions designed for ELL instructors and staff. There will also be a series of sessions on building a success mindset in our students and a full strand of sessions focusing on Career Pathway work. This year, Wisconsin Literacy will host their annual meeting on Thursday late morning.
Lunch and breaks will be served each day. Our exhibit hall vendors will be available on October 26th and on October 27th to share the best and most current goods and services available to meet your professional educational needs.
We hope to see you there!
This conference is partially sponsored by the Commission On Adult Basic Education (COABE).
