The 2016 Governor's Conference on Economic Development: making of the Missouri Masterpiece

For the 58th annual Governor’s Conference on Economic Development, we will look at ecodevo from a new artistic angle, from a space that has no limits or boundaries. Take the leap off the grid, off the canvas and join us in a new matrix—removing our hesitancy and opening our minds to new visions and ideas. Whether it is a sweet melody, a splash of vibrant color, the passion of a dreamer, or an atmosphere of energy, we will let the art of Creativity, Innovation and Discovery guide us as we together experience the making of the Missouri Masterpiece.

2016 Highlights

You may have seen our opening conference speaker on TEDTalks or heard about her theory-- the arts spark innovation and spur economic growth. Adele Fleet Bacow, President of Community Partners Consultants and author of Designing the City: A Guide for Advocates and Public Officials, develops creative approaches to economic development, program and strategic planning, community cultural development, design and the arts.  She will share with us the benefits of supporting and spearheading creative spaces, ideas, and initiatives. Consider the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District as one example of this. Talented professionals are being drawn to the area’s culture, entertainment, and art. And the business community is following suite, and staking claims in places like the Sprint Accelerator to be a part of this new trending environment.

You cannot put art in a box. It may be the picture of a new workforce effort or a sketch of what other communities are doing to be unique, original, and attract the eye of a business looking to grow. Our speakers will share their stories and philosophies, inviting you to discover new pathways and new aesthetics. We hope to see you in Kansas City. Bring your creativity but leave your smock at home, unless you need it to wipe the famous Kansas City bar-b-que sauce from your face.
