The MP3 meeting enables an exchange of information between the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center and the contractor community on ways to prevent problems and minimize schedule and cost impacts on space programs. This year's meeting will highlight recent progress and lessons learned in the areas of materials for space structures, with an emphasis on assuring quality of materials made by additive manufacturing (AM), otherwise known as 3-D printing. Last year's meeting had presentations by government and contractors describing parts that they were already making by AM or planned to make in the near future. If these materials are to be used in the future satellites and launch vehicles, it is imperative that the community quickly develops best-practice manufacturing procedures.
Another focus of the meeting is to provide attendees with the opportunity to directly interact with vendors representing all aspects of current and future space materials manufacturing.
