This five-day course provides a theoretical foundation as well as hands-on opportunities to assess and teach school-aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a model classroom setting. The premise of this foundation is an understanding of the learning styles of individuals with ASD and how to use teaching strategies that capitalize on learning strengths. During the first two days of this course, participants work collaboratively with the TEACCH training team to set-up a classroom with a focus on the physical structure, individual schedules and work systems for five students with ASD. Beginning mid-week the participants will observe and work directly with these students in the classroom. An emphasis is placed on the use of Structured TEACCHing principles to teach children and adolescents with ASD skills in the areas of academics (literacy and numeracy), communication, independence, social and leisure, vocational, relaxation and coping strategies. Participants will have an opportunity to apply these strategies with students of varying functioning levels in a classroom setting and in the community. A $50 non-refundable deposit is collected upon registration. The balance is due 30 days prior to the training

If cancelling a substitute participant may be designated and the original $50 deposit will be applied.
Cancellations received within ten (10) business days of the first day of the event WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. The entire registration fee is forfeited unless a substitution is found
Cancellations made more than ten (10) business days prior to the first day of the event will be refunded any fee already paid (less the $50 non-refundable deposit).
TEACCH reserves the right to cancel, post-pone or combine class sections; to limit registration; or to change instructors. TEACCH will make every effort to notify participants as soon as possible of any changes or cancellations. Participants should consider the possibility of change or cancellation when opting for non-refundable travel arrangements. Registration fees for events canceled by TEACCH will be refunded in full.
