The AAMC is now accepting applications for the 2017-2018 AAMC GME Leadership Development Certificate Program (formerly, the GME Leadership Development Course)!
Recently updated, this two-part certificate program will be held at the AAMC’s headquarters in Washington, DC on April 21-23, 2017 (Part 1) and January 12-13, 2018 (Part 2).
Based on the AAMC Group on Resident Affairs’ Institutional GME Leadership Competencies, this program stands as the premier longitudinal educational experience to establish the necessary skill set for new GME leaders, and to enrich the knowledge of more advanced participants. Case-based methodology and other interactive teaching platforms are utilized to engage attendees in real-world scenarios that will increase their ability to manage, direct, and strategize their educational offices and staff.
Participants identify and complete an Action Learning Project (ALP) as a way to apply new skills and integrate the resources and support from the program into a visible contribution to their institutions. Participants share their projects with GME colleagues via a poster session at the spring 2018 GRA meeting.
This certificate program prepares participants to transition the program’s concepts into actionable constructs that enhance their work, regardless of the size or scope of their organization. Emphasis is also placed on developing relationships with individuals and national workgroups outside of their own institution or specialty.
The GME Leadership Development Certificate Program is open to all GME leaders, or those aspiring to transition into the role. The newly-designed curriculum will be the most beneficial for new (in position less than 3 years) DIOs, GME Deans, Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs, GME Directors, and others who are responsible for the institutional oversight of GME. Preference in placement will be given to these groups.
Other leaders who are more senior, or who have taken previous AAMC offerings, are still welcome to attend, and placement will be granted as space allows.
