Summary

The AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar will address the specific needs of mid-career faculty from a culturally responsive approach while offering skill building and strategies for pursuing career advancement in academic medicine. This program offers networking opportunities, career development planning sessions, as well as observational learning opportunities where participants will be matched with a senior faculty member outside of their institution.

The AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar will be delivered through a blended learning model that consists of: virtual learning sessions/webinars; a “brick and mortar” 2.5 day in-person meeting; and post-seminar activities (optional observational learning opportunity).

Learning Objectives:

  • Assess professional development goals and identify strategies and tools for promotion and tenure
  • Develop key professional competencies in academic leadership
  • Enhance leadership skills in the areas of communication, team building, change management and work/life balance
  • Expand your network of colleagues and sponsors

Career Consulting Sessions:
You will have the opportunity to sign up for small group career consultation sessions that will be conducted on-site.

Optional Seminar Offerings:

  • Observational learning experience: no additional fee to participate, but participants will be responsible for their own travel and accommodations

Who Can Attend

  1. Applicant must be an associate professor at an AAMC member institution
  2. To register for and attend an AAMC meeting, you must be affiliated with an AAMC member institution, a non-profit medical education or professional organization, or a college or university. Please note that commercial representatives are not permitted to register for the meeting
