Join the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health for the 2017 ACUTE Symposium: Improving Medical Care for Eating Disorders in Denver, Colorado! The country's leading experts will guide symposium attendees on a case-based journey through each body system focusing on the most common medical complications affecting our patients with severe eating disorders. Attendees will increase familiarity with the clinical presentations, pathophysiology, and management of the medical complications of severe restricting and purging behaviors and walk away with a toolbox of evidence-based clinical care guidelines to implement immediately into practice.
The medical complications of severe eating disorders are not well understood even in excellent clinical and academic settings, because care providers rarely receive formal training in starvation or refeeding medicine and may not care for many eating disordered patients. Some of the most medically and psychologically fragile patients therefore often receive suboptimal medical care, which can result in patient harm and mistrust of the medical system, as well as provider frustration and sense of helplessness. This symposium will provide medical professionals (both physicians and allied professionals) the opportunity to review medical complications and treatment options for patients with severe eating disorders.
