Question: What is the attire for the conference?
Answer:

Business casual attire is appropriate for attending sessions during the day. Houston, in late September, can be in the high 60s in the evenings, so we recommend dressing in layers. Plan to bring some type of light sweater or jacket for use in the meeting rooms and for evening events.  Check the Weather for more up-to-the-minute weather conditions, and plan your attire accordingly.

Question: How is the 2017 Annual Gathering being environmentally responsible?
Answer:

Following the encyclical by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’, Catholic Charities USA is further committed to protecting our common home. We come together this year in Houston, Texas, for our 2017 Annual Gathering—September 28-30, the largest gathering of our ministry, and we encourage our participants and our vendor partners to work with us in reducing our carbon footprint.

CCUSA and the Marriott Marquis Houston staff are working to make your time in Houston enjoyable and as “green” as possible. Here are some ways we will effectively accomplish our goals:

  • Our CCUSA meeting app allows us to reduce the need for printed program books while still sharing up-to-the-minute information to conference attendees
  • Presentation materials from speakers will be available through the meeting app
  • Extra signage will be produced using recyclable paper
  • Communication and marketing of the conference will be accomplished electronically and conference registrations will all be on-line eliminating paper registration forms
  • The Marriott Marquis Houston uses 100% recycled note pads in their meeting rooms
  • The hotel will provide water service in an eco-friendly way by using stations rather than bottled waters
  • Recycling bins are located throughout the hotel meeting space
  • Excess food (when possible) will be sent to Second Servings (https://www.secondservingshouston.org/) they recover prepared food from hotels, conventions etc. and deliver it to organizations that feed to hungry
Question: How can I, as a conference attendee, further move CCUSA’s efforts forward?
Answer:
  • In your guest room, re-use towels when you can and request linen changes every 2-3 days
  • Look for recycle bins throughout the hotel and make sure to dispose of any bottles, cans, and paper in proper receptacles
  • Down load our meeting app to receive the latest up-to-the-minute information while at the conference
