2017 CalRecycle/LEA Trainings: Compostable Material Sampling and Contaminant Training Workshop

 


This one day, 7 hour training will focus on sampling and the physical contamination limit in compostable material. The training will include a morning, classroom-based session and an afternoon, field-based session. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the class will begin promptly at 9 a.m. The class ends at 4 p.m.

Cost to Attend: There is no charge for this training, but space is extremely limited.

The topics covered will include:

  • An overview of CalRecycle physical contaminant regulations
  • Physical contaminants in compostable materials
  • An overview of CalRecycle sampling regulations
  • Compostable materials sampling methods, roles and responsibilities
  • Hands-on field sampling demonstration/exercises

Training Workshop Goals:

  • Identify changes to the physical contaminant regulations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sampling depth protocols
  • Identify if sample meets random and representative requirements
  • Obtain hands-on experience conducting compostable material sampling

Outdoor Training Exercise: A portion of this class will take place outside at the facilities’ composting area. You are required to bring/wear the following to the class in order to participate the field exercise:

  1. Closed Toed Boots/Shoes
  2. Pants
  3. Safety Vest
  4. Safety Glasses
  5. Hard Hat
  6. Gloves
  7. Ear Plugs (optional)
  8. Water Bottle (optional)
  9. Sunscreen Lotion/Spray (optional)


Continuing Education Units (CEUs): This training is certified for CEU contact hours. CEU Certificates will be emailed to the attendees after completion of the training.

 

  • Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) CEUs are offered.
  • Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) 6 contact hours are offered. Course number is: 01-038-17.

Please note, due to limited food options at the training location, morning coffee service and a boxed sandwich lunch will be provided. You can choose sandwich selection on the registration form page.

Confirmation: To ensure you receive a confirmation letter and map to the facility, please register no later than one week prior to the training. Attendees who register after this may not receive a confirmation letter and map.
