PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Vehicle Cybersecurity to be presented during Showcase Day

June 26—An innovative vehicle cybersecurity project to be presented during the 2017 Cyber Security R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop next month will give attendees insight into how auto manufacturers are addressing auto software security concerns.

The R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop, happening July 11-13 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., is the federal government’s largest cybersecurity research and development (R&D) conference. July 11’s R&D Showcase will spotlight the vehicle cybersecurity project and 9 other mature, transition-ready technologies and projects. The conference is sponsored by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate’s Cyber Security Division (CSD).

Today’s cars have a large amount of software and—like other software-dependent systems—their software contains bugs and must be updated periodically. New York University’s Uptane project provides a mechanism to securely distribute software updates to cars. Uptane counters a comprehensive array of security attacks, is resilient to partial compromises, and addresses automotive-specific vulnerabilities and limitations. The technology has been adopted by multiple suppliers and many others currently are integrating it.

During the R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop, the 1,200 public- and private-sector attendees will choose from more than 115 technical presentations representing a combined $250 million of federally funded cybersecurity R&D.

If you already are registered and cannot attend all or part of the conference, we ask that you update your registration profile so others can register.

Registration is complimentary, however, a limited number of registration spots remain for July 12 and 13 only. Register now to secure a spot at this premier government cybersecurity R&D event. Also, sleeping rooms are available at the Residence Inn Arlington Courthouse. The reservation deadline is 5 p.m. June 30.

Under Secretary Invites Cyber Professionals to the Conference

April 28 - In his blog entry on April 26 on the DHS Science and Technology Directorate’s (S&T) website, the acting under secretary for S&T explained why cyber professionals should attend the 2017 Cyber Security R&D Showcase and Technology Workshop.

“As the federal government’s preeminent cybersecurity R&D conference, the R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop presents attendees the opportunity to discover a broad range of [Cyber Security Division]-funded R&D technologies and network with 1,000 cybersecurity peers. It truly is the must-attend cybersecurity R&D event of the year. On behalf of CSD Director Dr. Douglas Maughan and his team, I invite you to register now to attend this exceptional event,” wrote Dr. Robert Griffin.

He also noted CSD’s role in delivering new and innovative cybersecurity capabilities that mitigate known and emerging cyber-threats and the conference’s role in showcasing these new capabilities to various key audiences. “CSD funds a range of R&D projects that are helping critical public and private networks operators improve their cybersecurity posture. Each year, CSD spotlights cutting-edge research projects to stakeholders and public and private sector partners at our annual showcase event. The event’s primary objective is to introduce CSD’s funded research to technology implementers including chief information security officers, pilot and testing partners, investors, angel funders, and other potential market-transition partners,” wrote Dr. Griffin.
