Ground Transportation

For those coming in from out of town for the Academy, book your airfare into Denver International Airport (DIA).

The most cost effective and easiest way to get from the airport to the hotel is the brand new Denver Airport rail which is $12 each way.

Following is the information about taking the Denver airport rail to Union Station and then the “W” train (our light rail) from Union Central:

First, there is a website that does a video showing you how to get from the airport. You go down the escalators or elevators starting on the same level as the security check- in at DIA (near the new Westin). http://www.denver.org/about-denver/transportation/airport-rail/

Once you get off the airport train at Union Station, go through the terminal to the light rails. If it is nice weather, there is also a walkway beside the terminal. There is a light rail train every 15 minutes. The ticket you get at the airport transfers to the light rail. The cost is $12 and the ticket takes you all the way to the Federal Center Station. You can purchase these tickets as you go towards the trains at the airport.

Credit cards are welcome.

Once you get to the light rails (about a block of walking) take the “W” line to the Federal Center Station (note: do not get off at Federal Blvd). Once you get to the Federal Center Station call the Sheraton for free shuttle service at 303-987-2000 (this service usually picks you up within 15 minutes).  There is also the option of walking, as you will be able to see the hotel and is about a 4-5 block walk.

Note for the return trip: If you have large luggage or more than one piece of luggage; when you get on the light rail to return to Union Station & transfer to the airport train, you will want to board where the wheelchairs and baby carriages board, as the steps getting on the light rail are fairly steep otherwise, especially when maneuvering luggage.
